ABOUT
Bárbara Varela has a Master degree in Architecture from the ISCTE-IUL, Lisbon, since 2011. She developed her final work for master's degree at FAU-SP, Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo in São Paulo, Brazil, under the name SHPMA - Sustainability in Housing by joint Effort and Self-Management. In 2013 did a Post graduation in Advanced Studies Course in Digital Architecture - CEAAD, at ISCTE-IUL/FAUP, with the final work: 3D EARTH. Low Cost + High Tech. In Brazil, she joined several NGOs and the studio Ambiente Arquitectura. In 2008 integrated the GRID work team. Her field relates to the themes of self-construction, CAD-CAM processes, sustainability and natural resources. From 2012 to 2015 she collaborated with the team of Vitruvius FABLAB ISCTE-IUL, in Lisbon, being involved in several research projects, were she combined low-cost processes with digital fabrication in architecture. At the same time she worked in collaborative/participative projects in schools and social neighborhoods in partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation. From 2015 to 2016 she worked in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where she collaborated with NGOs, a Design Company and she did also freelance work.
