The UTPMP – A Roof For My Country – is an nonprofit organization, led by young people from different countries from the Latin America.
It had his beginning in Chile, in 1997. Today this organization acts in 16 countries from Latin America. Characterized by working with university students and with the communities of the regions more marginalized, with the intention of helping their quality of life with the construction of emergency houses inserted in programs of social habitation.
In Brasil, the UTPMP elevated himself in 2006.
In 3 years of work it accomplished to mobilize volunteers and resources for the construction of 249 emergency houses.
The construction is a temporary shelter, a basic module that can be adapted to the local conditions. This houses only have one room, with 18m2, with prefabricatedwalls and floor in treated pine, and with a cement cover. It is a light structure, but it resists, can be mounted in short time by four volunteers and it can last 10 years.
In the weekend of May 21 to 23, from 2010, were built 15 houses on the community Jd. Irmã Dolores, in São Vicente, Brazil. Were 15 new beginnings for the 15 families that live in extreme poverty conditions and that the previous houses were destroyed by a fire.
